Kongur (7719 m) from SW
Scheme of the way from Bishkek (capital of Kirghizia) to Kashgar.
Kongur from the South-West, climbing routes.
In 1981 expedition led by Chris Bonington made first ascent of Kongur. Since that time none else stood on the top of this ice giant. Two attempts had been carried out that year: route of the first of them passed along south rib (violet line in the picture) but the summit had been reached only at the second assault from the West via Kongur Col and west ridge (red line).
This ascent is difficult technically, a long pitch upon the west ridge crest goes at the altitude about 7000 m, so the climbing team should be composed of climbers with sufficient technical skills and high altitude experience.
